Sydney is Australia’s leading gateway, and is the most popular destination for overseas visitors. New South Wales attracts 52% of international visitors, ahead of Queensland, 50% and Victoria, 27%.
Domestic and international visitors to NSW destinations outside Sydney generated a staggering 68.7 million nights of accommodation in regional areas and $11.7 billion in tourist expenditure.

Hotels, airlines and tour operators are the most visible tourism businesses, but many more people are employed in the tourism industry, or benefit from it. As visitors’ dollars trickle down, they spread throughout the economy and the community in often surprising ways.
