Following is a summary of the services offered by other NSW government departments and authorities for tourism businesses.


NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water
Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water is responsible for coordinating, managing and planning activities that work towards a healthy environment. Tourism operators intending to operate nature-based businesses or who want to provide their visitors with information about our cultural heritage and natural environment would benefit from accessing the resources of this department.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS)
The NPWS focuses on the conservation and protection of the state’s natural and cultural heritage including the protected area reserve system. Tourism operators wishing to conduct businesses (e.g. tours, surf schools, etc.) within National Park boundaries must obtain the required approvals and authorisations from the NPWS.

Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (SHFA)
SHFA is responsible for the commercial and public management of some of the most valuable and historically significant real estate in Australia. Areas in its care include The Rocks, Darling Harbour, Circular Quay promenade, the Conservatorium of Music, Luna Park Reserve, White Bay Power Station and the Rozelle railway yards.

NSW Office of Fair Trading
The Office of Fair Trading is the consumer protection agency in New South Wales. It works to assist consumers in resolving a wide range of issues. In doing so, it also advises traders on fair and ethical practice, registers businesses and promotes cooperatives, provides occupational licensing and maintains product safety and standards.

The Office of Fair Trading also provides the Business Licence Information Service (BLIS) to assist businesses in identifying the appropriate licences required for operation. Click here for more information about BLIS.

Business Events Sydney (BESydney)
Business Events Sydney is a joint venture between the NSW Government and the tourism industry. It is a not-for-profit membership based organisation that has been extremely successful in promoting business events in Sydney and New South Wales for more than 35 years.

BESydney provides a variety of services to members, including:

  • bid development strategies
  • event planning services
  • key linkages within the meetings industry through road and trade show events to promote Sydney and regional New South Wales.

Tourist Attraction Signposting Assessment Committee (TASAC)
TASAC is a group formed by the NSW State Government to have overall responsibility for the planning and implementation of tourist signposting systems that safely and efficiently guide motorists to their destination, and inform visitors of the range of major attractions and services available within a destination.

TASAC is made up of representatives of Tourism NSW, the Roads and Traffic Authority, Regional Tourism Organisations and a Secretariat - find out more.
